June 2, 2011 - 06:43 am
Authorities are investigating the cause of a fatal house fire in Frederick.
A woman was killed and two others, including a firefighter, were injured when flames broke out around 3:30 a.m. Thursday at a single-family home in the 800 block of East South Street. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire showing on the side of the home.
Firefighters pulled the woman, who was trapped on the second floor, from the home. The victim went into cardiac arrest and was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Another victim is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries.
Authorities said that unattended cooking caused the fire. There were also no smoke alarms inside the residence.
