Frederick hosts 'plein air' painting festival
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Frederick is hosting a competitive open-air paining festival this week with 30 professional artists taking to the streets to capture the city's historic architecture and streetscapes.
The Easels in Frederick festival begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday in downtown Frederick. The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center plans to make it an annual event to promote "plein air" painting and the city's arts scene.
The participating artists will submit two completed artworks on Saturday.
They will be exhibited Sunday and offered for sale at a ticketed preview reception and later at a free public reception.
Visitors will be able to vote on their favorite painting, and the winner will receive a $1,500 People's Choice Award. A total of $9,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.
