Jaquissa Bryant was also charged Tuesday with making false statements.

According to court documents, Bryant kidnapped a four-month-old boy from Norfolk in April. Records say Bryant misled law enforcement in the investigation by saying the boy had died and she had dumped the body in a trash bin in South Carolina.

Prosecutors say Bryant also said the infant was with a fictitious woman in Chesapeake. Authorities later found the boy in Jackson, Ala. The infant was safe and was later returned to his mother in Norfolk.

If convicted, Bryant faces a minimum penalty of 20 years in prison. Her court-appointed lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.
