Lane closures possible on 11th Street bridges, parts of I-295 through September
The District Department of Transportation may close lanes during off peak travel times on the 11th Street bridges, related ramps, portions of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, I-295/DC 295 and local streets between Thursday, June 23, and Thursday, September 1, to accommodate construction.
The closures would take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The potentially affected streets are:
• One lane in the northbound direction of I-295/DC 295 between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and Howard Road, SE.
• One or both lanes of O Street, SE between 11th and 12th Streets, SE.
• Reducing Good Hope Road, SE to one lane between Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE and Anacostia Drive, SE.
• One lane of 12th Street, SE from N Street, SE to M Street, SE.
• One lane and bicycle lane on 11th Street, SE between M Street, SE and O Street, SE.
• One lane on the outbound 11th Street Bridge and the connecting ramp to southbound I-295/DC 295.
• One lane in each direction on the SE/SW Freeway from Pennsylvania Avenue, SE to 4th Street, SE (potentially closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.)
• One lane in the southbound direction on of I-295/DC 295 between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and Howard Road, SE. (potentially closed between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.)
During nights from Monday through Thursday, closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning may include:
• One lane in each direction of I-295/DC 295 between Pennsylvania Avenue, SE and Howard Road, SE.
• Reducing Good Hope Road to one lane between Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anacostia Drive. (This closure will not start until 10 pm.)
• One or both lanes of O Street, SE between 11th and 12th Streets, SE.
• One lane in each direction on SE/SW freeway from Pennsylvania Avenue, SE to 4th Street, SE.
• One or two lanes on the outbound 11th Street Bridge and the connecting ramp to southbound I-295/DC 295.
Temporary signs and traffic control measures will be in place. Streets would not be closed during holiday weekends.
