GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - The husband-and-wife owners of several Prince George's County liquor stores have admitted their roles in a corruption scheme that involved former county executive Jack Johnson.

Fifty-one-year-old Amrik Melhi and his wife, 49-year-old Ravinder Melhi, pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.

Amrik Melhi acknowledged he was part of a conspiracy to transport and distribute untaxed alcohol. Federal prosecutors say Melhi also gave money, campaign donations and other gifts to Johnson in exchange for licenses, permits and favorable legislation.

Ravinder Melhi pleaded guilty to conspiracy for her role in an unauthorized use of state motor vehicle records. Former county police officer Richard Delabrer previously pleaded guilty to conspiring with the Melhis.

Jack Johnson pleaded guilty to corruption charges last month and could face more than a decade in prison.
