Lululemon Athletica, the Bethesda store at the center of a high-profile slaying, is reopening after suffering from the tragic murder of an employee.

The store had been closed since mid-March, when the body of 30-year-old Jayna Murray was found inside the store. A co-worker, 28-year-old Brittany Norwood has been charged with murder in her death.

The papered storefront along Bethesda row gives no indication of the preparations behind the scenes as employees plan for the emotional reopening.

The murder of Murray sent shockwaves throughout the nation because of the brutality of the slaying and the twists and turns the case took. When Norwood and Murray were discovered, Norwood told authorities she and the victim had been sexually assaulted by unknown assailants, police said.

News of the store’s reopening, set for Friday June 24, is a welcome way to heal. Jayna’s spirit will be at the heart of the new store, as it will be dedicated in her honor with the theme of love.

Michael Futterman, who had applied for a position working alongside Jayna just days before her death, said the tribute couldn’t be more fitting.

“She was a sweet, loving person she would say hi to me when I came in the store to get my friends something, I think she deserves the dedication,” he said.

According to the store: “It is with warm and grateful hearts that we are announcing the re-opening of our newly renovated Bethesda store on Friday, June 24. The re-opening will embrace the theme of “love” in honor of Jayna Murray. More than ever, we remain committed to the people of Bethesda and look forward to continuing to share with this community the same love, passion and grace with which Jayna lived her life.”
