June 14, 2011 - 12:40 pm
A 45-year-old man was sentenced in D.C. Superior Court to 15 years behind bars for a string of ATM robberies in D.C.
John Woodland, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to five counts of attempted robbery while armed and four counts of attempted robbery.
Authorities said Woodland is responsible for carrying out a string of robberies of victims at ATMs in D.C. between April 20 and May 19, 2010. He often was armed with a knife at the time of the robberies, authorities said.
He was caught after U.S. Secret Service agents noticed Woodland acting suspiciously and caught him as he tried to rob a woman at an ATM.
