Metro is facing another mechanical issue: Four times in the last several months, train doors have opened on the wrong side of the track.

Metro says the mistakes are due to operator inattention. Train operators manually opened the door facing the track, not the platform. No injuries have been reported.

The latest incident happened Tuesday at Metro Center. An operator on a blue line train opened the wrong door. The operator was removed from service immediately and a supervisor took over the train.

The other incidents happened at Farragut North, Pentagon City and Branch Avenue stations. Last week an orange line train failed to pull all the way to the platform before the doors opened.

Doors on metro trains open and close 200,000 times a day. Operators began opening and closing the doors manually three years ago.
