Authorities are investigating a security breach at the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro Station in Northwest.
D.C. Fire reports a person exited the station through an unauthorized ventilation shaft. No injuries were reported.
Metro says transit police officers found an emergency access shaft open. They climbed down the shaft into the tunnel, but no one was found. The shaft was resealed.
Officials initially responded to the station, located at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Quincy Street, for a report of a person trapped.
Metro service does not appear to be affected.
No further details were immediately available.
