Montgomery County crash kills one
This story has been updated.
The driver of a Honda Accord was killed last night in Silver Spring while attempting to avoid hitting a stopped Ride On bus, police say.
Montgomery County Police say the Honda was traveling south in the 8600 block of 16th Street toward D.C. about 9:30 p.m. Friday night when it came upon the bus, which was stopped to pick up a passenger near Spring Street.
The white 2001 Honda veered to the right and hit the curb, a fire hydrant, and a street sign and overturned before coming to rest in an embankment on the side of the road. The car didn't hit the bus and no one on the bus was injured.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. There were no passengers in the car. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, police say.
The victim of the collision has been identified as Michael Patrick Considine, age 29, of the 300 block of Upshur Street, Northwest.
