Montgomery Village attempted rape under investigation
Montgomery County Police investigators are looking into an attempted rape that happened overnight in Montgomery Village.
Police say that just after midnight on Tuesday morning, a 23-year-old female was walking on Montgomery Village Avenue near Stewartown Road when she was followed, accosted and dragged into a wooded area.
Emily Nelson lives near the area where the incident took place. She says this isn't a safe area and is very cautious about where she goes.
“I think there are gangs in the area. There are questionable people out and about. We hear sirens regularly so...I don't go out at night by myself,” the 26-year-old said.
The victim noticed a man was following her. He tried to drag her into the wood line near the Montgomery Village golf course.
As the victim screamed, a bicyclist riding nearby startled the suspect, allowing the victim to escape.
“She began to scream and yell for help and at that point a bicyclist was going down the sidewalk and the suspect became startled and she was able to get away from him,” said Officer Rebecca Innocenti of the Montgomery County Police Department.
Police say that the suspect is a Hispanic male, 33-36 years old, 5'6" and about 200-225 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Montgomery County police or Crime Solvers.
