National Harbor Walmart could open by 2013
OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — Wal-Mart has a tentative agreement to build a new store in Prince George's County with the developer behind the National Harbor complex.
Taylor Chess of the Peterson Cos. tells The Washington Post the plan still requires some county approvals. But he says construction could begin next year with a store opening in 2013. It would be about a mile from National Harbor.
Wal-Mart spokesman Steve Restivo says the company is looking forward to better serving its Prince George's County customers with a new store.
Chess says he expects the store would be a super store with a grocery section.
The Peterson Cos. also recently announced it plans to open a Tanger Outlet Center in 2013 near National Harbor.
Wal-Mart also has proposed four stores for the District of Columbia.
