National Museum of the U.S. Army to open at Fort Belvoir
Correction:
The original AP story reported that the museum is set to open in 2013. An Army press release says the museum will open in 2015. The error has been corrected.
FORT BELVOIR, Va. (AP) — Virginia has been chosen as the home of the National Museum of the U.S. Army.
The Army said Friday that the museum will be located at the North Post of Fort Belvoir.
The museum is scheduled to open in June 2015. Among other things, it will include a museum with exhibit halls, a theater and a veterans' hall. The museum's construction will be funded privately through the Army Historical Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the Army's heritage.
This will be the second national military museum in Virginia. The Marine Corps Museum is located at Marine Base Quantico in Prince William County.
