Nationals top Phillies
June 1, 2011 - 08:31 pm
Laynce Nix was the hero for the Nationals on Wednesday, helping Washington beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1. Nix hit a solo home run in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie, then made a diving catch in the sixth to take runs away from the Phillies and preserve the Nationals one run lead.
John Lannan (3-5) earned his third win of the season, and Drew Storen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save in 11 chances. Roy Oswalt took the loss for the Phillies.
The win helped Washington finish their 6-game homestand with a 3-3 record, now they head out on an 11 game road trip against Arizona, San Francisco, and San Diego.
