Reports: Nats to name Davey Johnson as new manager
June 24, 2011 - 10:07 pm
ESPN is citing a source who says the Washington Nationals will name Davey Johnson as their new manager.
The Washington Post, too, reported the move, citing "front-office sources" who said while a deal isn't finalized, the Nationals are expected to name Johnson their next manager "within days."
Johnson, 68, will begin managing with Monday's game and will manage through next season, subject to league approval of the deal, according to ESPN.
Johnson managed the Mets to a World Series championship in 1986, and last managed in 2000 for the Dodgers.
Johnson has been serving as a special assistant with the Nats.
