A U.S. postal worker is accused of stealing more than 900 pieces of mail from a D.C. postal facility.

A grand jury indicted Lisa Hunter, 40, Friday on one count of theft of mail by a government employee and two counts of first-degree theft. She was arrested earlier in June and faces up to five years in prison.

On June 2, Hunter was seen by a U.S. Postal Service police officer pushing a mail cart through a turnstile at the employee exit of the Brentwood mail facility in the 900 block of Brentwood Road NE, authorities said.

When questioned, she said a supervisor authorized her to remove the mail from a facility.

The mail was addressed to two charities and contained more than $9,000 worth of donations.
