Rain came down in buckets in Arlington just after 7 p.m. Hail was sighted in Prince George's County.

Dan Grove says hail rained down on his Upper Marlboro community for seven minutes. “It was definitely crazy,” he said.

Grove couldn’t believe was he was seeing and hearing from his third floor balcony.

“I thought someone was banging on the side of our wall,” he said. Quarter-size hail pounded his apartment complex.

Grove grabbed his phone and took photos of hail lashing the building's siding and people brave enough to be outside.

Alexander Wilkins wondered about Wednesday’s extreme weather. “It’s kinda weird to me because it's hot outside and it's hail,” Wilkins said. Wednesday marked the hottest June 1 in more than 100 years, with a high of 98 degrees.

"The last thing we would think is ice. Ice in June," Wilkins said.

If the clouds are high enough during a severe thunderstorm, hail actually is not unusual. Hail this size likely caused some dents in people’s cars.

The upcoming days are bound to be more comfortable.
