Police in Fairfax County are inspecting commercial trucks and buses as part of "Roadcheck 2011", a national safety enforcement effort.
During Thursday's inspections, officers removed 22 trucks, out of the 61 they inspected, due to serious safety violations.
A team of eight officers closely inspected brakes, licensures, lighting and steering components.
In 2010, the Fairfax County unit put 139 trailers and 446 trucks out of service for a variety of violations. They discovered more than 4,700 violations last year, including those related to brakes, hazardous materials regulations, steering, lights, and overloaded vehicles.
