For the second time in just over a month, suspects used stun guns during robberies in Montgomery County. The most recent happened Monday night at an ATM in Germantown.

The suspect approached the victim at the ATM at the Bank of America at 19707 Germantown Rd. He pulled out a stun gun and demanded the man withdraw cash.

Two weeks earlier, two men used a stun gun to assault and rob a woman as she entered her Rockville apartment building. She suffered burns to her neck, chest and arm. Surveillance cameras at stores in Clinton and Capitol Heights in Prince George's county captured photos of two men using the victim’s credit cards.

The victim of the ATM robbery ran away, but left his ATM card and cash for the robber. The suspects in the attack on the woman are described as black males. The victim of the ATM robbery says the man who robbed him is white.

Montgomery County Police describe the suspect as a white male, 25-30 years old, 6'0" and 175 pounds. He fled the scene on foot.

Montgomery County authorities believe stun guns are becoming a new tool for criminals.

Officer Howard Hersh said it was “certainly a different tactic, using a the electrical mode as opposed to a strong arm or a hand knife or handgun.”

The bank manager is advising customers to be on guard when using the ATM after hours. Meanwhile police hope the released surveillance will lead to arrests.

Reward offered for information in May robbery

Police are offering a cash reward to anyone who can identify the two suspects who assaulted a 28-year-old woman outside her apartment building on Monroe Street in Rockville on May 25, police say. She was trying to unlock the door when the suspects attacked her.

Police say the suspects are driving a light blue, four-door Chevrolet sedan.
