RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The state employee who comes up with the best tip for saving the state some cash over the last month of this fiscal year will pocket a $2,500 bounty for it.

Gov. Bob McDonnell sent state workers a letter Wednesday challenging them to come up with ideas for making state Virginia government more frugal in exchange for the cash prize.

He's calling it a "30-day sprint" and asked for their recommendations by June 15th. That gives the administration a couple of weeks to pore over the suggestions and pick a winner.

The winner is honored at the Governor's Awards ceremony on the final day of the 2011 state fiscal year, June 30.

Virginia is expected to wrap up its current budget with a modest surplus.
