A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for some Maryland counties until 8 p.m.

The Maryland counties affected are Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett and Washington.

The Northern Virginia counties affected are Shenandoah, Clarke, Frederick, Page and Warren.
