Montgomery County Police have arrested three juveniles for vandalism and burglary at the Poolesville High School.

Police said the three teenagers, all male, are a 14-year-old from Germantown, a 16-year-old from Dickerson and a 16-year-old from Poolesville. The three suspects were arrested Thursday, June 16. They have been charged with burglary and destruction of property. All three have been released to their parents.

The teenagers allegedly smeared derogatory graffiti on the outside school walls, windows and basketball court, including ethnic slurs and symbols such as “KKK” and a swastika. The graffiti was discovered early Monday morning.

The incident is believed to have occurred Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Authorities said the words “Klan,” “Porch Monkeys Beware” and other racially offensive graffiti was sprayed onto the school on 17501 West Willard Road in Poolesville. Graffiti was found on the school’s walls, windows and basketball court.

“It was extremely disappointing for us,” the school’s principal Deena Levine said earlier this week.

Levine has been Poolesville’s principal for nine years and says she's never seen anything as bad as this. The school itself is very diverse. Nineteen schools from all over the county feed into Poolesville since it's a magnet school. Students are going through finals.

“It's a very harmonious school,” Levine said. “We pride ourselves on the strong relationships that the students have with each other and again, this is very uncharacteristic of anything that would happen in this school.”

Maintenance crews blasted off the hateful messages Tuesday. Kyle Dickerson, a 2007 graduate who lives across the street, says he's seen it before.

“I know when I was in high school we've had the same problem for like ten years now,” Dickerson said.

A four-wheeler was also taken from the school’s shed, which was locked, police said. Authorities believe the vandalism occurred between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

The school's booster club, PTSA and town council offered a $500 reward in addition to the police reward of $1,000.
