Three-car crash on I-66 snares traffic during rush hour
A fiery, multiple-vehicle accident early Wednesday morning injured one person and caused a traffic nightmare on eastbound I-66 in the midst of the morning rush hour.
Fairfax County Police say that just after 6:45 a.m., a tractor-trailer struck a Cadillac near Mile Marker 49. The collision forced both across the roadway and struck a third vehicle, a Toyota Prius. When the vehicles came to a halt, the truck, which came to rest near the Jersey wall, burst into flames.
All eastbound lanes of I-66 were shut down for about 90 minutes, but all lanes were reopened at at about 9:45 a.m.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 45-year-old David J. Simensen, was taken to Prince William Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Neither of the drivers of the other two cars were injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
