Two men charged with ‘assault by mob, abduction’ of taxi driver in Sterling
A taxi driver was attacked by two passengers early Sunday morning in Sterling, police say.
The driver had picked up several riders in Herndon and took them to Sterling. When two people left the vehicle in Sterling, two men stayed inside the taxi and asked to be taken to another location.
When the taxi driver declined, the subjects made a threatening statement towards the driver and then grabbed and broke his cell phone when he attempted to call for help.
The subjects then assaulted the driver. A witness called police to report a possible assault in progress.
Thomas Edward Cash, 18, of New York was charged with abduction, destruction of property, preventing someone from calling 911, assault by mob and underage possession of alcohol.
James A. Delaney, 29, of Ireland, was charged with abduction, assault by mob and obstruction of justice.
Both men remain held without bond. Victim declined medical treatment.
