Washington Triathlon causing road closures Sunday
June 18, 2011 - 10:29 am
(AP, WJLA) District of Columbia transportation officials say drivers should expect numerous downtown road closures Sunday for the Washington Triathlon.
The triathlon, a grueling competition involving swimming, biking and running, gets started this morning.
Some closures began as early as Saturday evening, namely Pennsylvania Avenue near the National Mall. Other closures took effect early Sunday morning.
The closures will affect downtown streets including 14th Street, Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue along the National Mall and major travel routes including the Rock Creek Parkway and Whitehurst Freeway.
Most streets are scheduled to reopen at about 6 p.m.
