Yvette Alexander chases down Kindle thief, recovers e-reader
June 9, 2011 - 02:23 pm
WASHINGTON (AP) — An irate member of the District of Columbia Council helped chase down a man who stole a Kindle from a pedestrian near city hall.
Matt Kurz tells WTTG-TV that he was waiting for his girlfriend at Freedom Plaza on Wednesday evening when a man snatched his Kindle out of his hands and took off running. Kurz started yelling and chasing the thief.
He was soon joined by D.C. Council member Yvette Alexander, who had just left her office at the John A. Wilson Building. After another bystander took the man to the ground, Alexander was captured on video yelling at the suspected thief. She said, "You should be ashamed of yourself. People earn their stuff and you steal!"
Kurz gave Alexander a hug after the man was arrested.
