Algonkian Parkway reopens after car crash, wires down
July 7, 2011 - 08:03 am
A portion of Algonkian Parkway in Sterling reopened in both directions more than seven hours after power lines fell into the road after a crash, authorities say.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says that an accident on Algonkian dropped wires onto a bus and are still in the roadway. The road was closed between Route 7 and Lowes Island Boulevard.
Authorities say that a car hit a power pole, knocking the power lines across the road and onto a bus that was following the striking vehicle. Low hanging wires were then dragged another 100 yards down the street, pulling down more poles as they went.
Police have not been able to locate the driver or passenger from the car.
Traffic is being diverted onto Route 7.
