A reported home invasion in Bowie Thursday afternoon resulted in a high-speed police chase and ended in a crash that injured an officer and the fleeing suspect.
At about 2:28 p.m. the Bowie Police Department responded for a report of a home invasion in progress in the 2700 block of Kirk Lane.
A woman reported that a male suspect had broken into her house and was attempting to gain access to the room where she had locked herself inside.
Upon arrival police saw a Toyota Scion fleeing from the scene. Police followed the vehicle a short distance and observed the driver of the vehicle commit multiple traffic infractions.
When police turned on their lights to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect took off at a high rate of speed on Belair Drive in the direction of Crain Highway.
Police saw a large television in the rear of the vehicle, an item reported as stolen from the residence of the home invasion.
The pursuit came to an end when the suspect left his lane causing a head on collision with a officer’s marked cruiser. The suspect was arrested and identified.
As a result of the vehicular crash, both the Bowie Police Officer and the suspect were transported to Prince George’s County Hospital to be treated for injuries.
The officer sustained minor injuries and the suspect suffered life threatening injuries.
The officer’s name is being withheld pending his release from the hospital. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending the issuance of a warrant.
