Busboys and Poets lounge opens in Hyattsville
July 19, 2011 - 09:56 am
HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) - The popular Washington eatery, bookstore and arts venue Busboys and Poets is opening its first location in Maryland.
Owner Andy Shallal says the fourth location for his expanding business is in Hyattsville. Shallal says it has the right demographic mix with a diverse population and a mix of arts, culture and politics.
The new location features murals and art by local artists. There are also two performance spaces. Upcoming events will include an open-mic poetry night and book readings and signings.
The original Busboys and Poets opened in 2005 near Washington's U Street.
The name is a nod to "busboy poet" Langston Hughes. There is another location in Washington and one in Arlington, Va.
