Capital Beltway lane closures in Silver Spring to begin on July 31
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP/WJLA) - Drivers can expect to see delays on the Capital Beltway in the Silver Spring area when a $3.7 million resurfacing project gets under way at the end of the month.
Originally scheduled to begin today, the work has been delayed but will start on July 31, a Maryland State Highway Administration spokesperson told ABC7 Monday.
Crews will begin resurfacing a four-mile stretch of the inner and outer loops between Colesville Road and Seminary Road.
Authorities say the project should be completed before Thanksgiving.
There will be single-lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday to Friday, and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday to Thursday. Two lanes each way will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday to Friday.
This is the first resurfacing to be done on that part of the beltway since 2004. More than 200,000 motorists use the corridor.
