Christopher Cummings fundraiser planned by friends and family
July 30, 2011 - 08:36 am
DUMFRIES, Va. (AP) — Friends and family of an Old Dominion University student slain off-campus are attempting to raise awareness of his death and money for a memorial fund with a car wash and bake sale.
In Christopher Cummings' memory, they'll conduct the fundraiser this weekend in northern Virginia. The Dumfries events will also raise money for a reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of his killer or killers.
The 20-year-old ODU student was slain at his Norfolk home on June 10. No arrests have been made and police have not publicly identified any suspects or a motive.
Cummings was the nephew of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings. The Maryland congressman has toured his late nephew's home and appealed for leads in the killing.
