D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray goes to Hollywood
July 21, 2011 - 05:46 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray is heading to Hollywood.
The mayor will fly to Los Angeles Thursday to meet with studio and production-company executives. His goal is to lure more big-budget productions to the district.
Part of the obstacle to moviemaking in the District is financial. States with a major film-industry presence typically give away hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks and other incentives. The district's incentive program is currently unfunded.
But Gray says the district has "an incredible talent base and resources" that should be attractive to producers.
The mayor will be spending three days in L.A. He's attending the summer leadership meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
