D.C.'s National Zoo to announce plans for Kids Farm
July 20, 2011 - 07:26 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - A Nigerian dwarf goat named Lucy will help announce the future of the Kids Farm exhibit at the National Zoo in Washington.
The announcement planned for Wednesday comes months after the Smithsonian Institution had announced the farm animal exhibit would close due to budget cuts. The Kids Farm was touted as an upgrade at the zoo in the past to give children an up-close view of animals.
Zoo officials say they have been pursuing other options to keep the exhibit open in response to public outcry over the announced closing.
The dwarf goat is among the animals in the exhibit, along with alpacas, donkeys, rabbits and chicken.
