Dangerous weekend on region’s waterways: Child drowns, man dies, another missing

A child and a man are dead and another man is missing after separate incidents on the water over the holiday weekend.

A man died Tuesday morning after being pulled from the Potomac River last Monday night.

Officials say the man hit his head and fell into the water while he was trying to tie up his boat.

This came just hours after a man nearly drowned in Germantown.

Police say the 38-year-old Gaithersburg man was trying to recover his electric toy boat in Gunners Lake when he went under. He was taken to the hospital and is now said to be in critical condition.

At Sandy Point Park, a child drowned during a holiday outing.

Fire officials say the boy was swimming in an unguarded area of the park when his went under. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
