NEVERMIND: September’s 20-year anniversary of Nirvana’s iconic grunge album is prompting many tributes, but one nod to the band’s driving force was shot down Thursday by politicians. Per Rolling Stone, “Kurt Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen, Washington has decided against a proposal to rename a bridge after the late Nirvana frontman. Despite a recommendation from the city's local parks board, the plan was ultimately scrapped because many on the city council were afraid that the memorial would glorify Cobain's drug use and suicide.” http://bit.ly/o1SKkT

HARD KNOCK-OUT: Blame the lockout. Per the AP, “No NFL team will be taking "Hard Knocks" this summer. HBO said Friday the uncertainty of the since-resolved lockout "made it impractical for a team to commit" to the popular training camp reality show. The series is set to return next year.” http://apne.ws/nyIYab

OF COWBOYS AND SMURFS: And popcorn, too. Per Variety, “A pair of hybrids ("Cowboys and Aliens," "The Smurfs"), along with Warner Bros.' PG-13 rated romantic comedy "Crazy Stupid Love," go into battle in one of the summer's few weekends sans sequels or superheroes. Domestic auds are expected to pony up for Universal's horse-and-alien show in the mid-$40 million range. But the frame's other wide releases will work to outdo holdovers "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2." http://bit.ly/pncKSX

X GAMES WIPEOUT:
But Travis Pastrana is OK. Per People, “The motocross star, 27, broke bones in his right foot and ankle Thursday after crashing during the Moto X Best Trick event at the X Games in Los Angeles. Pastrana was attempting a corked 720 he's dubbed "the toilet paper roll" when he fell.” http://bit.ly/oBiKT3

DASHBOARD LIGHTS OUT:
Meat Loaf collapsed on stage Thursday night while performing in Pittsburgh. Medics rushed to him, healed him and then he resumed his set, first explaining what happened, per Radar, ““I f**king fainted. I have asthma … I can’t breathe … and then … oh wait, I forgot … I got poked by a pin and bled half to death … and then I got slapped in the face and my tooth is loose.” http://bit.ly/n2gVOg

BOWLING FOR GAGA:
Lady Gaga appeared and performed Thursday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” She confirmed “You and I” will be her next single but more importantly, per MTV, she touched on “her nomination for the Bowling Hall of Fame. "I am a good bowler pre-Budweiser," she laughed. "And then once the beers start loading up, I become worse and worse, which is really great for whoever takes me out on the date, 'cause I'm a good, cheap date and a terrible bowler." So, does Gaga ever don bowling shoes? "Absolutely not!" she said. "What if one of my fans walked into the bowling alley and saw me in flats? They'd have a heart attack." http://on.mtv.com/pz2fCU

JUST BECAUSE:
A lot of people really care about things of this royal ilk, so. . . Per the AP, “Britain will celebrate its second royal wedding of the season Saturday, with equestrian star Zara Phillips - eldest granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II - taking center stage as she marries England rugby stalwart Mike Tindall. A regal supporting cast is expected as the queen leads her extended brood to Edinburgh, Scotland, for the private festivities. Prince William and Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are expected, along with Prince Harry (still single) and bright lights from Britain's sports and show business worlds.” http://apne.ws/qXUr8R

POLITICO BLINK: “Will.i.am – singer, rapper, Black Eyed Pea, sartorial innovator and the man behind the ditty “Yes We Can” – was spotted at the State Department on Friday. He was in town to meet with Hillary Clinton and help promote “100,000 Strong,” an effort to increase and diversify the number of American students studying in China. Clinton launched the initiative in Beijing last year.” http://politi.co/mq5ptf

LIVE SOCIAL NATION: Per the L.A. Times, “Social networks are great places to learn about concerts ... after they happen. The tweets, FourSquare check-ins and real-time Facebook wall posts of live concerts only provoke jealousy and torture people who are sitting at home reading those updates, wishing they had known the band was in town. For Live Nation, that represents a missed opportunity to sell tickets. To remedy this sad situation, the nation's largest concert promoter has created (what else?) an app. The company's Concert Calendar on Facebook is an effort to proactively reach out to fans and let them know about upcoming concerts in their area.” http://lat.ms/r7VZcr

NO, IT’S ‘CHICKEN!’: Per Pitchfork, “Onstage in Warsaw earlier this week, Morrissey made some incendiary comments about the recent massacre in Norway: "We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald's and Kentucky Fried S*** every day." (He then launched into the Smiths' "Meat Is Murder".)

In a new statement to the fan website True to You, Morrissey expands on that statement a bit, though he doesn't come anywhere near apologizing or backing down from what he said onstage: "If you quite rightly feel horrified at the Norway killings, then it surely naturally follows that you feel horror at the murder of ANY innocent being. You cannot ignore animal suffering simply because animals 'are not us.”

GONE WITH THE . . .LASER:
Apparently, Rhett’s grandson didn’t give a damn. Per TMZ, “Clark Gable III. . .was arrested last night for allegedly pointing a laser at an LAPD helicopter TMZ has learned. We're told Gable -- an aspiring actor -- was driving around in Hollywood with friends last night, driving in the direction of the Hollywood sign. Gable's family tells TMZ he was trying to point the laser at the famous sign, but apparently his aim ain't so good. A short time later, cops swarmed and accused Gable of pointing the device at the chopper -- a huge no-no.” http://bit.ly/pzZ3Z3
