Driver crashes into Herndon post office
July 11, 2011 - 02:27 pm
A driver attempting to back out of a parking lot accidentally went forward instead and crashed into a post office in Herndon, police said.
The vehicle struck a wall at the Herndon post office in the 500 block of Grove Street and caused “significant damage” but didn’t go fully into the building, said Herndon Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Jeff Coulter.
Post office maintenance staff were heading toward the scene to secure the hole in the building.
United States Postal Service Spokesperson Patrick Murphy says the Post Office remains open at this time as an initial review by local building inspectors indicated that the structure "appears to be okay."
No one was injured.
