Marvin United Methodist Chapel in Mt. Airy struck by lightning

A lighting strike ignited a fire at a Mt. Airy church Sunday morning.
The fire at Marvin United Methodist Chapel broke out shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday, according to the Frederick County fire marshal. When fire units from Frederick and Carroll County arrived at the chapel at 5101 Woodville Road, blames were eating through the roof of the church sanctuary.
The fire originated from a lightning strike during Sunday morning’s thunderstorm.
It took 75 firefighters an hour to extinguish the blaze. One firefighter was injured and transported to the hospital.
Damage is estimated to be $150,000.
