Four PG County Council members join Baker in saying Leslie Johnson should resign
WASHINGTON (AP) - Four members of the Prince George's County Council have now called for the resignation of their colleague Leslie Johnson.
Johnson pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Maryland to conspiracy to commit evidence and witness tampering.
The Washington Post reports that Mary Lehman (D-Laurel), William A. Campos (D-Hyattsville), Mel Franklin (D-Upper Marlboro) and Eric Olson (D-College Park) have called for Johnson's resignation. Four other members of the council have not commented on whether Johnson should resign, but County Executive Rushern L. Baker III has also called for her to leave.
Under Maryland law, Johnson will be required to step down when she is sentenced Oct. 13, but not before then. Her job on the Council pays more than $96,000 a year.
