Gas leak in Silver Spring

Montgomery County fire officials are on the scene of a gas leak in the 700 block of Thayer Avenue in Silver Spring.

The gas lea caused authorities to evacuate the area. But because few people were home, only about three or four people were evacuated.

The fire department was called to the area at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday and found the gas line broken where contractors were working.

None of the houses had gas readings.
