WSSC hopeful for evening rush opening for Georgia Avenue
WSSC officials are saying that they're hopeful that southbound Georgia Avenue could be fully open for the Thursday evening rush hour as crews continue to repair a water main break in Wheaton.
The 16" water main broke in early Wednesday morning in the 12000 block of Georgia Avenue, shutting down the heavily-used road throughout the day and into the night.
Georgia Avenue between Randolph Road and Henderson Avenue remains closed as crews repair the torn up roadway.
The pipe was repaired late Wednesday and water service was restored to customers.
A 200-foot stretch of Georgia Avenue affected by the break will be backfilled and paved throughout the afternoon.
