Germantown gas leak forces evacuation of two neighborhoods
July 27, 2011 - 11:38 am
Some residents of a Germantown neighborhood are being allowed back into their homes after a gas leak forced about 70 people to evacuate.
About three dozen homes were evacuated in a Germantown neighborhood while crews worked to repair a broken gas line, fire officials say.
Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Cpt. Oscar Garcia says that contractors working between homes in the 11400 block of Tulip Poplar Terrace struck a gas line. That street, along with Tulip Poplar Way, were been fully evacuated.
Some of the evacuated are still displaced while crews wait for gas levels in some houses drop. The gas line was shut off by Washington Gas before noon.
