Girl, 17, charged with killing woman in Stafford
Authorities arrested a teenage girl and charged her with shooting and killing a 62-year-old woman in Stafford County.
Police have not identified the 17-year-old girl charged in the killing. She was charged with first degree murder and detained Wednesday morning. One relative of the victim said her and the suspect are related.
The victim was identified as Brenda Dye. On Tuesday, police responded to a medical call at 700 Perry Drive and met with Dye’s husband and son. Both men had arrived home from work and found Dye not breathing with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
"Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Brenda Dye," states Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett. "We are truly saddened by this senseless loss of life."
Residents of this subdivision say investigators told them it was an isolated incident, and that there is little crime in the area. Neighbors were shocked at the murder.
A woman who says the victim was her sister-in-law stopped by the house Wednesday afternoon. She says she knows very little about the killing, but said the charged teenager is the victim’s niece.
Though the suspect is close to 18 she was charged as a juvenile. She remains in jail.
