Gray wants seatbelts in pedicabs
Pedicabs predominantly pedal tourists around the Mall. The increasing numbers and popularity have led to increased scrutiny.
Now the mayor is stepping in. He wants to require pedicabs to get regular brake checks and provide passengers with seatbelts.
“I actually do have seatbelts on my pedicab so actually I think the mayor is proposing a good thing,” said Alexander Lesiak, a predicab driver.
Several pedicab passengers also agreed that seatbelts are a good thing in pedicabs.
But some operators say it’s getting harder to be a pedicab operator. Last weekend, a group of pedicab drivers for into a confrontation which led to one driver getting shocked by a Taser.
Park police said they’re just cracking down on a behavior that’s becoming a problem on the National Mall.
