WASHINGTON (AP) - A former supply clerk for the Federal Trade Commission has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for making unauthorized purchases that resulted in a theft of more than $218,000 from the agency.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said in a news release Wednesday that 58-year-old Harold Hughes of Arlington, Va., entered a guilty plea in April to a count of theft of government money. As part of the plea agreement, he will pay full restitution to the government.

Prosecutors say that between February 2009 and December 2010, Hughes worked for the agency and was responsible for ordering office supplies for agency employees. Authorities say Hughes sold for cash most of the unauthorized purchases, which mainly were electronics - including laptop computers, DVD players and televisions.
