Hate crimes: Second Montgomery County middle school, 7 cars vandalized in Bethesda
Early Saturday morning, security officers discovered another case of vandalism to a Montgomery County middle school. Seven cars were also vandalized in the nearby Bethesda neighborhood.
Because of the similar nature of the vandalism this morning at North Bethesda Middle School, at 8935 Bradmoor Drive, and to Herbert Hoover Middle School two days before, police believe the two incidents are related.
In both cases, hate-based language and sexual images were scrawled on buildings and windows were broken.
At approximately 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Montgomery County Police responded to a call from security officers. They found an ethnically-offensive word, a sexually-descriptive drawing, and several initials painted on the outside of the building. They also found several windows had been broken.
Police also discovered seven vehicles on Beech Avenue had paint on them, and one vehicle had the same ethnically-offensive word painted on it.
Police are currently investigating vandalism to Herbert Hoover Middle School at 8810 Postoak Road in Potomac that occurred between 3:30 p.m. on July 13 and 9:45 a.m. on July 14. The extensive vandalism to that school included painted images of a sexual nature and hate-based language.
From Montgomery County Police: Anyone who has information in reference to the vandalism to North Bethesda Middle School and Beech Avenue vehicles is asked to call the 2nd District Investigative Section at 301-657-0112. Anyone with information about the vandalism to Hoover Middle School is asked to call the 1st District Investigative Section at 240-773-6084.
