Jonny Gomes acquired by Nationals from Cincinnati Reds
July 26, 2011 - 07:04 pm
The Washington Nationals added a right-handed bat to their lineup Tuesday night, acquiring outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Cincinnati Reds in a three-team trade.
The Nationals landed Gomes, a 9-year MLB veteran, and cash considerations from the Reds in exchange for two minor leaguers, outfieler Bill Rhinehart and left-handed pitcher Chris Manno.
Gomes sports a .244 career average with 115 home runs and 352 RBI with the Reds and Tampa Bay Rays. He has averaged 17 home runs per year since 2005.
This season, though, Gomes is hitting just .211 but already has 11 home runs.
Rhinehart has spend most of the season with the Nationals AA affiliate in Harrisburg, while Manno has 12 saves for the Hagerstown Suns.
