Fairfax County police search for gunman, victim's missing son

Police are looking to a gunman who shot and killed a Fairfax County father and investigators are also searching for the victim's missing son.
Just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, 75-year-old Gary Hanson was found inside his home in the 7600 block of Chancellor Way in Springfield. Neighbors tell ABC7 the Hansons live in the house with two grown sons, one of which, police say, is missing, along with the victim's car.
The victim's son, 53-year-old Richard Hanson, is described as a white male, who was last seen Tuesday driving his father's gray Saturn four-door sedan with Virginia tags KLG2406. Police are looking for Richard and the vehicle, but they say he is not a person of interest in the shooting. Due to a medical condition, he is believed to be endangered because he doesn't have his medication.
ABC7 News has learned that Gary suffered a stroke a few years back. Friends can't think of a reason why someone would want to harm the 75-year-old man.
"They've always been quiet neighbors, helped clean their driveways during the storms... Kind of a shock to see this,” said Dough Rihl.
Neighbor Sue Piskors says she saw police officers walking through the neighborhood. The officers were carrying high-powered rifles and told residents to lock doors and stay inside..
Detectives spent hours gathering clues inside the colonial-style single-family house nestled in a densely wooded area. Neighbors were concerned to hear a dangerous armed man is on the loose.
"They were telling everyone,” said Mike Yount.
