McDonald's Happy Meals turning healthy?
July 26, 2011 - 05:03 pm
As concerns about childhood obesity get bigger, the McDonald's Happy Meal is getting smaller.
Parents like Silver Spring resident Hallie Segerman were thrilled that the Happy Meal will soon come with only half the amount of fries and will always come with apples, which even some kids were excited about.
The change comes after no-so-happy critics pointed out that not one Happy Meal combination met nutritional standards. Some were packed with as many as 700 calories.
The new combination has 20 percent fewer calories, 15 percent less sodium and 20 percent less saturated fat.
“I am always saying one of the problems we have is the portions are so much bigger than they used to be,” Segerman said.
