Metropolitan Branch Trail robbery is latest in string of crimes (map)
D.C. Police are investigating another robbery along the Metropolitan Branch Trail, the latest in a troubling string incidents along the popular path since early May.
Police say that a man was robbed on the trail in the 300 block of R Street NE at about 8:15 a.m. Friday morning. A suspect approached the victim on the trail, brandished a gun and took his cell phone and wallet. He was not injured.
The suspect is described as a 18-21 year old black male that stants about 5'8" and was wearing glasses with dark frames.
Authorities say that the suspect asked the victim for the time of day, a common tactic that sets up a robbery attempt.
Five robberies along the Metropolitan Branch Trail occurred between May 5 and June 5 and happened at about the same time and using the same method as Friday's crime. A taser was brandished, but not used, during one incident.
A sixth incident happened about two weeks ago, when a person was robbed during the late night hours of July 9.
