Michael Walters sentenced for slaying a man he mistakenly thought was witness
A 31-year-old alleged member of a drug ring was sentenced Friday to 45 years behind bars for killing a man he mistakenly thought was a witness.
Michael Walters, of the District, was convicted in March of conspiracy, first degree murder while armed with aggravating circumstances, obstruction of justice, and related firearms offenses after a month-long trial in D.C. Superior Court.
He was one of four defendants. The other defendants were already sentenced to terms ranging from 48 years to 37 years in prison.
Authorities said Walters was one of two triggermen who killed Michael Henry, 25, in August 208. Authorities said the defendant and co-defendants were dealing drugs near 22nd and Savannah Streets SE.
The defendants believed the Henry was a snitch and Walters and another man killed him, authorities said.
